Our Cause

The National Cat Protection Society (NatCat) is a non-profit, no-kill 501(c)(3) cat shelter. We welcome owner-relinquished cats and kittens to stay in our clean and comfortable living quarters until they find a proper home. Our state-of-the-art facilities with protected access to the "outdoors" in large enclosed patio areas let them enjoy themselves without compromising their safety.

NatCat has two cat shelters in Southern California: Newport Beach and Spring Valley. The trained staff and dedicated volunteers all share a tremendous love for cats and are selflessly dedicated to their well-being.

We also uniquely offer retirement for cats. After purr-using our website, we hope you will join our organization, whether you live in Southern California or some other part of the world.

Save Lives—Spay and Neuter Your Pets!

You can help reduce animal suffering by spaying or neutering your cat. In fact, responsible pet ownership necessitates this surgery. Without it, cat overpopulation will persist, which horrendously results in millions destroyed each year by euthanasia or environmental causes. Homeless and unsheltered kitties cannot possibly find the number of homes and shelters they need to go on.

Further, spayed or neutered cats are far less likely to develop certain cancers and annoying behaviors such as fighting, spraying and yowling. As a result, they do not need to repeatedly visit the veterinarian
while costing you great expense.

Read more about the benefits of spaying and neutering by the ASPCA.

Forty-six years ago, NatCat Founder C. Richard Calore said in Defense of Cats, “The uncontrolled breeding of dogs and cats represents one of the greatest tragedies confronting those who work for the protection of animals. With little prospect of being placed in good homes, and with a surplus of 40 million dogs and cats, these creatures are allowed to be born only to die a ghastly death. This, indeed, is mankind’s legalized crime!”
