"Society
can make a difference in teaching our children to be
kind to animals as well as each other. There has always
been a bond or link between people and animals. A child
that is taught to have kindness and understanding to
a companion animal will understand acts of compassion."

HISTORY
The National Cat Protection Society was founded 39 years ago through the singular efforts of Mr. C. Richard Calore. While serving in World War II as a humane officer, Mr. Calore found himself deep in a French fox hole during the dead cold of winter. The scene was bleak until a courageous cat appeared, keeping him warm throughout the night.
Inspired by his furry friend, Mr. Calore vowed to spend the rest of his life teaching others how to humanely treat animals. So he established the National Cat Protection Society in 1968 as a safe haven for cats and kittens as well as a vehicle for raising public awareness.
Today, National Cat not only shelters cats and kittens in Orange County and San Diego, but we also offer information and assistance to cat lovers and caretakers throughout the country. Led by Mr. Calore’s widow, V.P. Public Relations Mrs. Gerri Calore, and President Denise Johnston, the cat-loving staff members and volunteers of National Cat are proud of their organization’s history and look forward to many years to come.
