ADOPTION

The adoption process begins with a visit to one of our cat shelters.

When you arrive at National Cat, please put your name on our sign-in sheet and complete the pre-adoption questionnaire. One of our adoption counselors will be happy to answer your questions and give you background information on the cat or kitten that interests you.

NATCAT encourages all household members to be present during the adoption process to ensure that the cat or kitten you choose is compatible with everyone.

Prior to adoption, National Cat:

• Makes sure all cats are spayed or neutered.
• Checks all cats for good health and sound temperament.
• Makes sure all cats have been tested for feline Leukemia, given vaccinations or annual boosters, and de-wormed.
• Issues a certificate for a free veterinary exam at a participating local veterinarian clinic.

Please ask your veterinarian to thoroughly check your new friend and vaccinate him or her against any other diseases.

To finalize the adoption process, you must read, understand, and sign a required Adoption Agreement statement and pay the established fees.

Adoption Fees: Adoption Fees start at $75. If you plan to adopt a cat or kitten, and you currently own a cat carrier, please bring it with you upon your visit to the shelter. National Cat requires that all adopted kitties are transported in a secure carrier en route to their new home.

Incoming Cats: To relinquish an adult cat, you must call during regular business hours and make an appointment. Due to limited space, we may need to place you on our waiting list until your cat can be accommodated. There is a relinquishment fee of $50 for each kitty.

During the summer kitten season, we take kittens as space opens or on a first come basis by appointment only.
